Prof. Dr. Dr. Bettina Pfleiderer

It is a special pleasure for me as MWIA Past President to send you these greetings on the occasion of the first joint international congress of the German Medical Women´s association (DÄB), the Organisation of Medical Women of Austria and Medical Women Switzerland (mws). This congress will be combined with a meeting of the MWIA Central European Region.

I still vividly recall when we had our Central European MWIA regional business meeting at the MWIA centennial congress in New York in July 2019 and the idea of a joint congress was discussed, which was met with enthusiasm. Little we knew about a pandemic at that time and that it would not be possible to meet in person. Sadly, the organizers had to decide on short notice to have this meeting turned into a virtual event now; but I am sure that we will be able to meet face-to face again next year.

The theme the organizers have chosen for this congress “Borderline situations: a pandemic and its consequences” is a timely one and reflects the global and national challenges. My congratulation to the organizers for drafting such a most interesting programme.

Last, but not least the congress offers the unique chance to discuss how the health care system could be restructured in the post-COVID-recovery; we are all aware that the pandemic has been highlighted existing gaps and structural deficiencies that will need to be tackled.

Now, I am looking forward to inspiring talks, interesting workshops and meeting hopefully many of you online. I wish all member of the MWIA Central European region a successful and inspiring international meeting.

With my kindest regards,
Prof. Dr. Dr. Bettina Pfleiderer
MWIA past president
